Why is it called Sex Wax?
In the beginning, Zog asked his friend and artist, Hank Pitcher, to design a label for the new surf wax. Never one to shy away from controversy, Hank came up with a bold, catchy logo bearing the name “Sex Wax.” Hank liked it because it sounded phonetically cool. Zog loved it because it was attention-grabbing, absurd, and a perfect spoof on Madison Avenue’s cheeky obsession with using sex to sell products.
Naming it Sex Wax led to some hilarious misunderstandings over the years — from confused customers sending letters of “satisfaction,” to schools and family amusement parks banning the logo. And then there are those who read it and just smile, knowing the world could always use a good laugh — and a solid wax job.
